These strike-on-the-day coins were struck on 8th May 2020 - the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. Each coin features a special VE Day privy mark. 

Only 750 of these coins will be issued.

Victory in Europe Day

On the 8th May 2020 it was 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), the day in which Nazi Germany formally surrendered in World War II. The war lasted for six years and caused major destruction, taking the lives of millions of people. When news of Germany's surrender was announced, celebration spread throughout the country. This coin captures the relief felt by so many people that the war was finally over. 

Obverse

The obverse features the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark.  

Reverse

The reverse shows the iconic St George and the Dragon as designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. 

A special privy mark appears on the left of the date. It reads "VE 75".
